The Strength Series

We are inviting artists to respond to the theme of "Strength" in its many forms – whether it’s the raw power of figures like Atlas, the relentless force of the Hulk, or the enduring, nurturing bond between mother and child. Strength can also manifest in the resilience of the human mind or the deep, unshakable roots that connect us to our heritage and communities.

The Strength Series is a rotating mural and print project that asks each artist to interpret what strength means to them. The wall on Wood Street, Walthamstow is home to the series, created in collaboration with Pure Muscles Gym.

We’re kicking things off with a bold new typographic piece by Luke Smile.

About the Artist

Luke Smile is a London-based artist and designer creating colourful, positive artwork rooted in play, precision and energy. His practice combines 3D lettering, bold compositions and vibrant colour palettes, and often uses his own custom typefaces. With a background in graphic design and a love for typography, his murals, studio work and limited edition prints are full of joy, movement and connection. His mission is to create pieces that uplift and galvanise communities, create memorable, positive brand associations and bring joy to a wall in the home.

This piece features the quote “Strength is what we gain from the madness we survive”, using a custom font developed especially for the project. The design blends traditional sign-writing with spray-paint to create a bold, layered composition.

Each mural in the series will be released alongside a limited edition screen print, produced in partnership with Jealous Print Studio. Just 40 hand-pulled prints of Luke’s piece are available.
