Artist Statement
Alive explores resilience and life triumphing over death. Featuring a portrait of a woman alongside a skull overgrown with flowers, the artwork reflects the idea that life continues to grow and transform through loss and change.
The flowers reclaiming the skull symbolise renewal and hope, celebrating a quieter form of strength: our ability to heal, adapt and move forward.
The Strength Series
We are inviting artists to respond to the theme of ‘Strength’ in its many forms – whether it’s the raw power of figures like Atlas, the relentless force of the Hulk, or the enduring, nurturing bond between mother and child. Strength can also manifest in the resilience of the human mind or the deep, unshakable roots that connect us to our heritage and communities.
The Strength Series is a rotating mural and print project that asks each artist to interpret what strength means to them. The wall on Wood Street, Walthamstow is home to the series, created in collaboration with Pure Muscles Gym.
